Terms of service

The service

BatScrape runs actors that fetch content from sources you nominate and deliver it, shaped by a versioned wire contract, to destinations you nominate. We provide the platform. You choose the sources.

Your responsibilities for what you scrape

This is the part that matters most, so it is near the top rather than buried.

• You are responsible for having the right to access every source you point an actor at, including compliance with that source’s terms and with the law in your jurisdiction and theirs.
• You must not use the service to collect personal data without a lawful basis, to circumvent access controls, or to evade a source’s stated restrictions on automated access.
• You must not use it to build a dataset whose purpose is to harass, profile, or discriminate against individuals.
• We may suspend an actor, or an account, where we have a reasonable belief that one of the above is being breached.

Accounts and keys

• You are responsible for keeping API keys secret and for everything done with them.
• Rotate a key immediately if it is exposed; we will help, but we cannot un-ring the bell.
• One account per organisation. Sharing credentials across organisations is a breach of these terms.

Plans, usage and billing

• Plans are billed in advance, monthly or annually, and renew automatically until cancelled.
• Usage is metered on rows delivered. A run that fails before writing is not billed.
• Exceeding a plan limit pauses further runs rather than silently overcharging you. You can raise the limit at any time.
• Cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid period. We do not pro-rate partial months.
• Prices may change with 30 days’ notice, never mid-term.

Availability

We aim for [99.9%] monthly availability on the API. Where a plan includes a formal service level, it is set out in the order form and takes precedence over this paragraph. Scheduled maintenance is announced in advance and, wherever possible, does not interrupt in-flight runs.

Wire contract changes

The contract is versioned and the vector set is append-only. We will not change what an existing version means. New versions are announced in the changelog and by email, and the previous version stays available for at least 6 months after a successor ships.

Your data

Content fetched on your behalf is yours. We claim no rights in it, do not use it to train models, and do not disclose it except as described in the privacy policy or as required by law.

Our intellectual property

The platform, the actors we author, the contract package and this site remain ours. Your subscription is a licence to use them, not a transfer.

Suspension and termination

• You may close your account at any time from the dashboard.
• We may suspend an account for non-payment after notice, or immediately where use threatens the platform or breaches the scraping responsibilities above.
• On termination we delete your data on the schedule set out in the privacy policy.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, our total liability in any 12-month period is limited to the fees you paid in that period, and neither party is liable for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing here limits liability for death, personal injury, or fraud.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of [jurisdiction], and the courts of [jurisdiction] have exclusive jurisdiction.
